Getting your music mixed professionally starts with properly exporting and uploading your stems. Here's everything you need to know.
What Are Stems?
Stems are individual audio tracks from your session — vocals, drums, bass, guitars, synths, etc. Each element exported separately gives the mixing engineer complete control over your sound.
Export Settings
- Format: WAV or AIFF (uncompressed)
- Bit Depth: 24-bit or 32-bit
- Sample Rate: Match your session (44.1kHz, 48kHz, or higher)
- Start Point: All stems from the same timeline position
How to Export
- 1Remove all master bus processing (limiters, compressors, EQ)
- 2Solo each track and export from bar 1 to the end of the song
- 3Name each file clearly (e.g., "Lead_Vocal.wav", "Kick.wav")
- 4Organize stems into a single folder with your song title
- 5Compress the folder into a ZIP file for upload
Pro Tip
Leave headroom! Keep your peaks around -6dB to -3dB. This gives the mixing engineer room to work without clipping or distortion.
